Politico's New York Playbook featured GrayHouse polling today showing a competitive 2026 gubernatorial race, with Rep. Elise Stefanik trailing Gov. Kathy Hochul by just 5 points—far closer than recent public polling suggests.
The poll, commissioned by E-PAC, found Hochul at 47% and Stefanik at 42% among likely voters, with Stefanik actually leading among informed voters familiar with both candidates' positions.
Why the coverage matters: The Politico piece highlights a recurring theme in our work—capturing electoral dynamics that broader public polling often misses. Our multi-mode methodology, which proved highly accurate in 2024, is designed specifically to reach likely voters in ways that reflect actual turnout composition, not just who's easiest to poll.
The poll also revealed strategic vulnerabilities for Hochul, particularly around her endorsement of NYC mayoral candidate Zohran Mamdani, which tests poorly with independent voters—a demographic already trending toward Stefanik in our previous surveys.
As the 2026 cycle heats up, GrayHouse continues to provide the actionable intelligence that campaigns, media, and political observers rely on to understand competitive races.
