AN EARLY POLL: Rep. Elise Stefanik handily leads a hypothetical Republican gubernatorial primary field, according to a poll released this morning by Grayhouse.
The survey is the first public poll to include Stefanik since it was reported she’s weighing a run for governor.
She drew 44 percent from the 262 registered GOP voters polled. Lawler and Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman were in single digits. But underscoring how early this poll is: 44 percent of voters were undecided.
The survey was paid for by Grayhouse and has a 5 percent margin of error.
Stefanik has strong name recognition given her national profile, and her close alignment with Trump likely gives her a boost with GOP voters in a closed party primary. If she were to run next year, Stefanik would be giving up a safe North Country House seat that she won by 24 points. — Nick Reisman
