In a front-page exclusive, the New York Post profiled Rep. Elise Stefanik’s potential run for governor — citing a new GrayHouse poll that places her as the undisputed frontrunner in the Republican primary and within striking distance of Governor Kathy Hochul in a general election matchup.

The GrayHouse survey, released just days earlier, found:

  • 44% of GOP primary voters back Stefanik — compared to just 7% for Rep. Mike Lawler and 7% for Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman

  • In a hypothetical general election, Stefanik trails Hochul by just 6 points (46% to 40%), making her the strongest statewide contender Republicans have seen in decades

The polling fueled national media attention and reinforced what Rep. Stefanik told the Post:

“We are in the best polling position in the primary by an overwhelming margin, and we’re polling the best in the general election as well.”

The Post story highlighted Stefanik’s growing donor base, her alignment with former President Trump, and her aggressive statewide travel schedule—all laying the groundwork for what could be the most competitive Republican campaign for New York governor since George Pataki.

GrayHouse polling is shaping the narrative at the highest levels of American politics, spotlighting early strength, momentum, and viability in the nation’s most closely watched political battlegrounds.
