After the successful launch of BioShock back in August Take-Two was already touting it as a franchise. Today they formally announced in a financial statement what we already could have guessed months ago - BioShock 2 will be arriving in Q4 2009.

From the press release: “2K Games said today that BioShock 2, the sequel to the wholly owned and internally developed title, is being developed by 2K Marin and is planned for release in the fourth quarter of fiscal 2009. The critically acclaimed BioShock title has sold over 2 million units worldwide since its launch in August.”

There are still a ton of questions that have yet to be answered: whether Ken Levine (mastermind behind the original) will be involved in this title, what platforms it will be released on, and whether or not the story will center around the often rumored “prequel” premise. With a new team in 2k Marin we can only hope they do this one right because topping, let alone matching the original will be quite the feat.
