And So It Begins: iPhone Game Development Ramps up
There have been rumblings about the potential of the iPhone as a videogame platform for quite awhile now. Today Apple showed off their software development kit (SDK) along with a few titles running on the tech. First off was Spore from EA, put together in only 2 weeks and not the gimped mobile version you might suspect - it is the full fledged game. Another title shown was Sega’s Super Monkey Ball - the developer had this to say, “This is not a cellphone game. This is a full console game. And we underestimated the power of the device. We had to fly in a developer to upscale the art for the iPhone.”
These games run on the iPod Touch as well, since the two Apple products boast the same innards. There are other games in the planning stages and expect multiple developers to jump on the Apple bandwagon in the months to come.
The future seems bright and rosy for the potential platform, PSP and DS eat your heart out? We’ll find out soon enough.
Next up for the iPhone: becoming self-aware and destroying mankind.
