Sony Believes PS3 to Soon Surpass 360

According to reports, Sony believes that the PS3 will soon beat Microsoft’s Xbox 360 in the Next-Gen Console War. Sony has been gloating over their most recent sales figures for their hardware. Howard Stringer, the CEO has stated that the “PS3 has now gone past Xbox on the Christmas market.” He claimed that in December Sony sold 797,600 PS3 consoles in the U.S., this was a 331,600 jump from November. Stringer fells that the “PS3 is out of the woods and beginning to hold its own.” This comes amidst rumors that Sony is getting ready to drop the 80GB PS3 console in favor of releasing a new 120GB or 160GB model.

Like all PR talk, this is total hype on Sony’s part. Sales jump up and down from month to month. Plus, to say that sales jumped from November is over stating the obvious. Everybody knows that sales are going to jump due to the Christmas season. In all actuality, Nintendo dominates the market right now with the 360 right behind. With the year lead of the 360, don’t think that PS3 is going to overtake Xbox any time soon, at least in the US. The 360 has way too many quality titles coming out in the near future that will drive sales up.
